  • Migrating/Upgrading cPanel Servers from CentOS Linux 7 After EOL?

    Hello 24x7,

I have three servers that are currently running cPanel with CentOS Linux 7. With the recent End of Life (EOL) announcement for CentOS Linux 7 as of June 30, 2024, I need to migrate or upgrade these servers to a new, supported operating system to avoid potential security risks and ensure ongoing support.

These servers host a total of 25 websites, and it is critical that this migration or upgradation is performed smoothly to avoid any downtime or crashes. Can someone provide a detailed guide on how to proceed with this issue?

    Hello

The process for migration is simple as you need to install new compatible OS for cpanel and using the transfer tool you can transfer the websites. Follow the below step by step guide to complete the migration. However if you are looking to ugprade the system from Centos7 to Almalinux8 i will share the process in next post soon.

    Step 1: System Preparation:
    • Ensure your system is fully updated: sudo yum update
    • Disable non-essential services to reduce load during migration.

    Step 2: Install New OS:
    • For fresh installations, set up a new server with the chosen OS and install cPanel.

    Step 3: Data Transfer:
    • Use cPanel’s transfer tool to migrate accounts from the old server to the new server:
      • Log into WHM on the new server and navigate to Transfers > Transfer Tool.
      • Enter the old server’s details and select the accounts to transfer.

    Step 4: Configuration Migration:
    • Copy custom configurations and settings from the old server to the new server.
    • Verify that all services (Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc.) are configured correctly.

    Step 5: DNS Update:
    • Update DNS records to point to the new server’s IP address. Ensure a low TTL (Time to Live) value before migration to minimize propagation delays.

    Step 6: Testing:
    • Thoroughly test all websites and services on the new server to ensure functionality.
    • Use a staging environment to test critical applications and workflows.
    • Engage with community forums for AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, or other chosen OS for peer support and advice.

By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth migration from CentOS Linux 7 to a new operating system, maintaining the stability and security of your cPanel servers. If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out to our team

Thank you for the steps. Yes, I also need to check the upgrade option from Centos7 to Almalinux8. I'll be waiting for your next update.
