  • Difference between VPS and dedicated server

What are the differences between the VPS and dedicated server? Are both are similar?

  • #2
Rajashree, Let me explain you in short. VPS is basically called "Virtual private server " which is a virtualized or sliced server hosted on your dedicated server. You create VPS just like a hosting account on a Cpanel/WHM server, The difference here is on dedicated server you install a Hyper-visor(Xen or KVM ) which allows the dedicated server to share it resources with the VPS.

Whereas a dedicated server is dedicated with all its resources to the users hosted on the server. Cpanel shared hosting is a classic example of dedicated server.

There are many reasons both are not similar and have different purpose to serve clients. Every user needs to evaluate and judge their requirements for hosting their website or applications on a server. If you are web application is going to very less resource intensive then a VPS will be ideal choice otherwise a dedicated server is always a good option.
