Monitoring the server

How do you monitor the server and other services on the server? Are there any tools which would you recommend for it?

The best tool so far is using Nagios which perfectly monitor server and its services with precise accuracy, The alert system is also great and very informative. However there are many other monitoring tools available for free and can be installed on linux server.
