Server Configuration

I have site which has 1000 concurrent users accessing the site simultaneously. Site used to go down when such concurrent requests are there for the site. What should be the server configuration which can handle the 1000 concurrent users? Do you have any website which can handle the such traffic? Can you please suggest the configuration for such requirement?

Before putting your server live in production environment its very important to perform stress test on your web server to see how much traffic it can handle. Apache web server should be able to handle those many concurrent users after performing some tweaks.
