  • Storage size of PC Hard drive and RAM size

    Hi all,

Just join this forum. cPanel installation is completely new to me although I have been using it quite sometimes.

I'm going to install cPanel purely for learning not for production
    OS Linux - Ubuntu/Debian/CentOS
What will be the minimum storage size of HD. I'll use SSD HD
What will be the minimum size of RAM I need?

    Please advise. Thanks

    Regards

    For HDD,
    • Minimum: 20 GB
    • Recommended: 40 GB

    for RAM,

      Hi Jayan,

      Thanks for your advice.

Do I need a web server for running cPanel, to install LAMP?

      My old PC;
      HD - 120G SSD
      RAM - 8G

CentOS 8 installed, running on old PC
      66G free in cs-root
      40G in cs-home

I have 2~3 old 120G SSD resting on shelves. Can I install them on my old PC combing the storage of HD to 360G. If possible please advise HOW? Links would be appreciated. Thanks

This is a test allowing me to learn cPanel installation, NOT for production.

      Regards

No, you do not require anything preinstalled. cPanel does install everything it requires to give you a up and running webserver.
Do not install it on a server with fancy partition like / and /home. Keep it simple. It does not require any fancy partitioning.

You can combine all the hard disks and use it on "/" without separate partitioning.

          Hi Jayant,

          Thanks for your advice.

Whether I shouldn't install any other software on PC except OS, in my case CentOS 8?

I shall use an Old PC testing installing cPanel. The HD is only a 120G A-DATA SSD and I doubt whether the storage space is sufficient? Just found another old Intel 120G SSD and installed it on the old PC

          # inxi -D
          Code:
          Drives:
Local Storage: total: 2.04 TiB used: 5.67 GiB (0.3%)
            ID-1: /dev/sda vendor: Intel model: SSDSC2CT120A3 size: 111.79 GiB
            ID-2: /dev/sdb vendor: Western Digital model: WD2002FAEX-007BA0
            size: 1.82 TiB
            ID-3: /dev/sdc vendor: A-Data model: SX900 size: 119.24 GiB
          # df -h
          Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
          devtmpfs 3.8G 0 3.8G 0% /dev
          tmpfs 3.8G 26M 3.8G 1% /dev/shm
          tmpfs 3.8G 9.6M 3.8G 1% /run
          tmpfs 3.8G 0 3.8G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
          /dev/mapper/cs-root 70G 4.9G 66G 7% /
          /dev/sdc2 1014M 242M 773M 24% /boot
          /dev/mapper/cs-home 40G 618M 40G 2% /home
          /dev/sdc1 599M 7.3M 592M 2% /boot/efi
          tmpfs 767M 5.8M 762M 1% /run/user/1000
I have no idea how to combine the space of 2 SSD drives before or during installing cPanel ? I'll format Intel 120G SSD as ext4 later.

          On Internet I found following link;
          Installation Guide - Installation

Whether I should follow their steps. Please advise. Thanks

          Regards.

            Hi,

-> Nothing is required but freshly installed OS.

            HTML Code:
            /dev/mapper/cs-root 70G 4.9G 66G 7% /
            /dev/mapper/cs-home 40G 618M 40G 2% /home
Like I said previously, there is no point in keeping 2 different partitions when you can use only one partition, so that does not limit any other capabilities in the future. I will suggest you remove the /home and extend the existing cs-root to full capacity.

-> This is the official installation link for cPanel, so you can follow this without any doubt.
